
Our Vision
PC₃ Educational Mission
The PC₃ initiative began with the idea of creating a training program in computational chemistry for senior undergraduates. But through early discussions with faculty researchers from across Canada, the focus shifted to a graduate-level program, one that emphasizes applied computational chemistry and practical skill building.
The participating faculty agreed on several core principles:

Hands-on training in applying computational chemistry simulation methods.

Remote instruction delivered via Zoom.

Course content aligned with each instructor’s research expertise.

Use of open-source software or tools accessible through DRAC, free to students.

Co-taught courses to expose students to diverse approaches and techniques.

Free access to computing resources (through DRAC) for all program-related work.

All materials developed under Creative Commons licensing.

Open access to course content for students across Canada.
Each course is developed collaboratively by small teams and reviewed collectively to ensure consistency and a logical progression of skills across the program.

PC₃ stands out as a pioneering platform that brings together instructors and researchers from institutions across Canada to co-develop and co-teach advanced computational chemistry content. Its collaborative design, open-access materials, and flexible delivery have not only elevated graduate training but also inspired similar programs to adopt its framework. Several institutions have already modeled their teaching initiatives on PC₃’s structure, recognizing its success in building a shared, high-quality educational experience that transcends disciplinary and geographic boundaries.
Research Support
PC₃ helps students build the technical expertise and conceptual foundation needed to conduct advanced research in computational chemistry. Through guided instruction, hands-on software training, and real-world applications, students gain the tools to confidently design and execute their own research projects. The program also fosters collaboration between students and faculty across institutions, creating a dynamic, supportive environment for shared learning and scientific growth.
Job Skills Training
PC₃ equips students with real-world competencies (like coding, data analysis, and software deployment) through hands-on modules in molecular modelling, statistical mechanics, and simulation workflows, ensuring you're prepared for roles in academia and industry
Technical Skills & Tools
Our curriculum delivers high-quality training in computational chemistry software; including scripting, calculation setup, and data visualization and analysis empowering students to manage and reproduce complex workflows efficiently.
Skill Growth and Development
PC₃ offers a structured progression in computational chemistry tools and concepts, from fundamental molecular mechanics to advanced quantum‑mechanical techniques, helping you continuously build expertise in a collaborative, pan‑Canadian environment.
